Dr. Joseph Thomas

Dr. Joseph ThomasDr. Thomas is a highly skilled, board certified and fellowship trained ophthalmologist who specializes in advanced cataract surgery and laser vision correction. He is committed to helping most patients achieve a life free of glasses or contacts. He is a native of Northeast Ohio and the son of an internist who is also an alumnus of Case Western Reserve University Medical School. Dr. Thomas credits much of his interactive patient skills to observing his father who always felt being a physician was a privileged position in which one was able to make a significant impact on a patient’s life.

Dr. Thomas completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was a faculty member of the Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospitals in Cleveland where he served as Director of Refractive Surgery for six years.

In 2006, Dr. Thomas decided to pursue other opportunities and joined the team of surgeons at LasikPlus and now performs laser vision correction procedures with LasikPlus in both Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. In addition, he opened his practice, Thomas Eyecare, to provide the personalized attention he has come to be known for to all who entrust themselves to his care. He currently holds staff privileges at Ahuja Medical Center, Hillcrest Hospital, and the Surgcenter Cleveland.

Advanced Training in LASIK Surgery

Dr. Thomas is fellowship trained in cornea, external diseases and refractive surgery of the eye and has received extensive training in LASIK/PRK. He is certified on all of the latest laser surgery equipment and the various possible treatments. He has performed over 45,000 laser vision correction procedures since 1996.

Cataract Surgery / Advanced Intraocular Cataract Lenses (IOL) Technology

Dr. Thomas performs topical anesthesia, no stitch cataract surgery in a state of the art surgical facility with a staff specifically trained in eye care. He treats cataract surgery as a form of refractive surgery with a goal of spectacle independence.

He previously served in the Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospitals of Cleveland where he taught ophthalmology residents the clinical and surgical skills required for the practice of ophthalmology. He has practiced in the Cleveland area since 1996.

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1999 and became recertified by the board in 2009. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cleveland Ophthalmology Society and the Ohio State Medical Association.

Dr. Thomas is married and is the proud father of four. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and children. He may often be seen attending hockey games or playing tennis, squash or golf with his family.
